ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The third-seeded Eckerd Tritons (19-8) took a 14-13 lead on a layup by
Lewis Lampley with 10:47 to go in the first half and never looked back, cruising to an 86-62 victory over the sixth-seeded Nova Southeastern Sharks (14-16) in quarterfinal action of the 2010 SSC BlueCross and BlueShield of Florida Championships on Wednesday.
The Tritons will face the second-seeded Rollins Tars at 12pm on Saturday, March 6 at Nova Southeastern's University Center.
Zaronn Cann led all scorers with 18 points on 6-of-8 shooting from the field,
Chris Gray and
John Harper each went 2-for-3 from downtown, en route to scoring 10 points each.
Lampley's layup in the first half sparked Eckerd on a 19-9 run, eventually out-scoring the Sharks, 28-16 over the remainder of the half, taking a 42-29 lead into the locker room.
Eckerd pulled away for good, mid-way through the second half, going on a 20-6 run, capped by a pair of free throws by
Woody Taylor, to expand its lead to 71-44 before settling for the 24-point victory.
The Tritons out-shot NSU 51 to 33.3 percent from the field while out-rebounding the Sharks, 39-25. Alex Gynes led the Sharks with 16 points while Ross Allsop and John Brooks each added 10 points.
