Shark Invitational First-Day Results
PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. – The Eckerd College men's golf team resumed the fall season by completing two rounds of the Shark Invitational hosted by Nova Southeastern University on Monday at the PGA National Resort & Spa.
Callum Georgallides and
Jeff Evanier shared the team's low round of the day with a 2-over-par 74 as the Tritons (305-309--614) currently sit in 11th among 14 teams.
Eckerd was coming off a tied runner-up effort in its season opener at the Jay Jennison Memorial after Evanier claimed medalist honors.
Through two rounds, Barry University leads with a 10-stroke margin while Jordan Meltzer from Johnson & Wales (Fla.) University paces all individuals.
“We began in a tough situation with the shotgun start and just petered out on the last nine holes,” EC Head Coach
Bill Buttner said. “It was an endurance test; a good golf course that featured a lot of tough shots.”
Georgallides is tied for 27th in the field with a 36-hole total of 150. He carded a 37 on the front and back nine of his second round to post one of the Tritons' 74's.
Evanier began play with the other 74 in his opening round and he followed that with an 80 to end the day. He is tied for 44th along with teammate
Paul Henderson (76-78--154) on the individual leaderboard.
A pair of Eckerd teammates rounded out the scoring and remain tied for 61st after recording a cumulative 160 total.
Greg Reilly and
Luke Bobrowski had low rounds of 79 and 77, respectively.
The Tritons wrap up play tomorrow with the third and final round.
