Women’s Tennis Finishes Final Day of Panther Invitational on Strong Note

Final Results

MELBOURNE, Fla.
– The perfect doubles run from freshmen Taylor Bullock and Carson Trapp may have come to an end, but the Eckerd College women's tennis program exhibited development that belied its youth as the fall campaign ended at the Panther Invitational on Sunday.

With four freshmen traveling to the season-opening USTA/ITA South Regional in recent history, select members of the Tritons made their collegiate debut.

But with another tournament under their belt against top-caliber competition, the maturation process and progression for the young Eckerd program continued as singles and doubles draws concluded.

“I'm really proud of the progress our women's team has made in such a short time,” EC Head Coach Erin Koenig said. “Our tournament schedule was tough this fall and everyone has really stepped up and worked hard. We still have a lot of work to do, but I'm confident they will continue to improve and grow.”

After winning two doubles pairings on Friday, Bullock and Trapp made it a close call for their bid to make it a perfect 3-0 on the weekend, falling by a narrow 8-5 decision against a Florida Tech combo.

With Erika Fridrik and Bullock vying for third in the singles division, it took a grueling tiebreaker to end one match and a straight-set victory in the other.

Bullock pushed Palm Beach Atlantic University's Vilja Vahatalo to the brink after rebounding to win the second set. Vahatalo proceeded to win the closely-contested tiebreaker by a 10-6 score as Bullock claimed fourth in her pool.

Stephanie Jenks, Gipson Hawn and Amy Naula earned sixth, while Trapp finished eighth in a deep “B” bracket to round up the Eckerd results.
