ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The Eckerd College men's soccer program was honored with a pair of players on the Daktronics All-South Region Team and recognized by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) with the 2011-12 Team Academic Award as announced by both organizations this week.
Defender
Matt Duffy and forward
Matt Dolan represented the Tritons on the Daktronics All-South Region Team.
Duffy was selected to the first team and Dolan was a second-team member. Duffy, the Sunshine State Conference Defensive Player of the Year, is automatically eligible for All-American consideration.
Dolan and Duffy were part of 18 student-athletes from the SSC picked to the first and second-team ballots by the region's respective sports information offices.
A worthy accomplishment to complement Eckerd's work off the field, the Tritons were one of 222 men's programs around the nation that posted a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher, thereby earning the NSCAA Team Academic Award for the 2011-12 academic year.
The NSCAA annually recognizes college and high school soccer programs that have excelled in the classroom in addition to their work on the pitch.
The Tritons recorded a 3.27 GPA as a team in the 2011-12 academic year.
