Softball Takes Extra Inning Win From Lynn

BOCA RATON, Fla. - Emma Docking and Alex Sasso picked up two hits each as the Triton softball team defeated the Lynn Fighting Knights 3-2 in nine innings Friday afternoon at the McCusker Complex in Boca Raton, Florida during their Sunshine State Conference series opener.  The Tritons improve to 15-30-1 overall and 5-14 in the conference, while the Fighting Knights drop to 22-27 and 5-13 in the SSC.

Kirsten Cox started things off for the Tritons in the top of the second inning with her single through the left side.  After putting Amelia Czelatka in for Cox to run, Czelatka advanced to second on a grounder to second, then stole third base to put a runner on third with only one out.  Czelatka was brought home by Emily Wiemken's base hit to right field to give Eckerd the 1-0 lead.

Lynn would tie the game up during their at-bats that same inning, then scored one more run in the bottom of the third inning to take the 2-1 lead.  Eckerd would answer back during their at-bats of the fourth inning, leading the inning off with Kristen Schurr's double to right center.  Shortly after, Sasso came up with a single to right field to put runners on first and third.   With two on and one out, Mackenzie Dawson singled through the right side, bringing home a run to make it a tied ball game.

With both teams unable to score runs before the seventh inning, the game went into extra innings.  Meagan Camp led of the ninth inning off with a base hit to second.  Camp was able to move to second on Sarah Agnew's sacrifice bunt, and then hustled to third on Docking's base hit to left field.  Camp eventually came home due to a fielding error by the Lynn defense, making it a 3-2 game.  Lynn was able to put one runner on base due to a double to right field, but was unsuccessful in scoring a run, giving Eckerd the win.

Dawson earned the win for the Tritons, coming into the tied ball game in the eighth inning, pitching two scoreless innings, giving up three hits and struck out one batter.  Sasso pitched the first seven innings for Eckerd.

The Tritons will conclude their series with the Fighting Knights tomorrow in double-header action.  The first game is set for 1:00 pm.
