ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- The Eckerd College Athletics Department had more than 50 percent of its student-athletes who compete athletically in the spring semester named to the Sunshine State Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll, it was announced by the league office.
The Tritons had 68 of their spring sport student-athletes record a GPA of 3.2 or higher. Sports included for Eckerd were men's and women's basketball, men's and women's golf, men's and women's tennis, baseball and softball.
Eckerd led the conference in honor roll members in the sports of men's basketball, men's golf and baseball.
"These young men and women should be very proud of what they have accomplished," said Dr. Bob Fortosis, Eckerd College's Director of Athletics. "They are incredible representatives of Eckerd both on and off the field. Excelling in the classroom is one of our core values, and this is a tremendous reflection."
The semester ended a strong academic year for the Tritons. The department had an overall GPA of 3.12 for the 2009-10 year.
