Flager Fall Slam Invitational Final Results
ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – With another fall season officially in the books, the Eckerd College women's golf team held steady to complete the final round of play at the Flagler Fall Slam Inviational on a breezy Tuesday.
Paced by an 84 from sophomore
Mara Shingleton, the Tritons (372-368--740) maintained their pace of 19th in the 20-team field and improved their second-round team score by four strokes.
Lynn University completed the wire-to-wire victory, winning by two strokes over Carson-Newman (Tenn.) University. Samantha Smolen and Jessica Bradley finished first and second in the individual standings, respectively, in the Fighting Knights' effort.
“It is still a learning process for our girls and I think we'll see some great improvement when the spring comes around because we've played some very difficult courses,” EC Head Coach
Bill Buttner said. “But it doesn't get any easier because there are a lot of strong teams in our conference that we'll see in the schedule.”
Shingleton (88-84--172) carried the Tritons' torch as the team's top finisher at Marsh Creek Country Club, placing in a tie for 69th. Senior
Georgia Gordon dropped 10 strokes off from her uncharacteristic first-day score and carded an 87 to wrap up the fall.
Gordon and
Jenee Vanderstyne both tied for 90th while
Christina Brewster posted a 103 on the scorecard to round out the Eckerd totals.
