Volleyball Collects Additional Postseason Honors, Draper Awarded With AVCA South Region Coach of the Year

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Four more members of the NCAA Sweet 16-qualifying Eckerd College volleyball program were honored and Head Coach Courtney Draper received another prestigious award as the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) announced its annual all-regional picks on Tuesday.

Draper, already named the Sunshine State Conference Coach of the Year, added some more prized hardware after guiding Eckerd to a 27-5 overall record in the 2011 campaign.

By winning the title of AVCA South Region Coach of the Year for the first time in her career, Draper is automatically eligible in the ballot for AVCA National Coach of the Year.

In her eighth season at the helm, Draper turned around a program that went 2-14 in SSC play just a year ago to a 13-3 mark in the league standings this fall. She guided the Tritons to a program-best 14-match win streak, the program's first AVCA Top-25 ranking since 2009 and the school's first-ever win against then unbeaten and No. 1- ranked University of Tampa.

Highlighting the All-South Region Team was sophomore outside hitter Lindsay Biggs and junior middle blocker Alex Laton while freshman right-side hitter Ali McAlvany and senior libero Hallie Ward helped comprise the Honorable Mention selections.

The Tritons have been represented well in the postseason voting with six student-athletes landing on the All-SSSC Team and a total of four more receiving Daktronics All-South Region accolades.
