VALDOSTA, Ga. – The Eckerd College men's and women's tennis programs' fall-opening run at the USTA/ITA South Regional hosted by Valdosta State University came to an end in consolation action over the weekend.
Five men's competitors were able to get two matches under their belt during the trip and the four traveling freshmen on the women's side made their official collegiate debuts.
One of those freshmen, Gipson Hawn, was able to take a set from Katie Close, but her bid to advance to the fourth round of the women's consolation bracket fell just short in a tiebreaker. Amy Naula was also able to take a set from her opponent in the championship flight in Friday's action.
The Tritons will close the fall campaign at the Panther Invitational this upcoming week, traveling to Melbourne, Fla., from Sept. 30-Oct. 2.
