Capital One Division II Academic All-American Teams

TOWSON, Md.
– Eckerd College senior defender Matt Duffy completed the impressive journey to become a Capital One Academic All-America® NCAA Division II Men's Soccer First-Team selection, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Duffy was previously chosen as an all-district selection earlier in the voting process. Only 11 student-athletes from district voting are tabbed to the first-team All-America ballot.

Duffy was one of four at the defense position across the country to be selected to the prestigious first team. He was joined by Ryan Barnett (Indianapolis), Zachary Page-Belknap (Colorado School of Mines) and Weston Zeiner (Bentley).

Currently holding a 3.90 grade point average while majoring in Economics, Duffy has completed one of the most decorated single seasons in school history following his standout fall campaign on the pitch.

The reigning Sunshine State Conference Defensive Player of the Year and First Team All-SSC selection, Duffy was named all-conference three times in his prolific career.

Duffy was the second-leading scorer for the Tritons this year with five goals and two assists, ultimately helping Eckerd reach the finals of the 2012 SSC Championship.

A native of Knaresborough, England, he was named First Team Daktronics All-South Region twice and is currently eligible for Daktronics All-American consideration.

Duffy has also been named to the SSC Commissioner's Fall Honor Roll for all three years in his career.

The Capital One Division II Academic All-America® program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division III national governance structure to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2011-12 D-III Academic All-America® teams program.
