Joey Cuda was selected as the Sunshine State Conference Pitcher of the Week for the opening voting period of the spring season as announced by the league.
Cuda, the defending SSC Pitcher of the Year, carved out a six-inning gem against Warner University in Eckerd's season debut on Wednesday. He allowed just one hit, one walk and struck out nine hitters to receive the winning decision.
After yielding a leadoff walk to begin the game against the Royals, Cuda settled in and retired nine straight. Eight of his nine strikeouts were from whiffed swings.
Cuda forced Warner hitters to pound into eight groundouts vs. just one out via the fly ball.
This marks Cuda's second selection as SSC Pitcher of the Week in his career after collecting weekly league honors last year (April 22).
