WINTER PARK, Fla. – A total of 28 Eckerd College student-athletes were officially named to the Sunshine State Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll for the Fall 2011 semester as announced by Jay Jones last week.
Overall, 398 student-athletes from the league's nine institutions received the academic distinction for the Fall 2011 semester, while 64 individuals carried a perfect 4.00 GPA for the semester.
Over 42 percent of Eckerd's fall student-athletes met the criteria for selection.
To be eligible for the Commissioner's Fall Honor Roll, a student-athlete must post a minimum grade point average of 3.20 on a scale of 4.00. Participants in the sports of men's and women's cross country, men's and women's soccer, and volleyball were eligible for the honor roll.
The Tritons' men's soccer program had 12 student-athletes make the list, an additional nine from women's soccer also qualified while volleyball landed nearly half of its roster with seven selections.
Having won 76 national championships since the league was founded in 1975, the SSC's student-athletes have also proven to be successful in the classroom. The NCAA recently announced that, for the fifth consecutive year, the Sunshine State Conference led all 22 Division II conferences with an Academic Success Rate of 86 percent.
