ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - A late strike in the first half by the Choctaws secured the win, as the Tritons men's soccer team fell by a score of 3-0 at Johnson Field on Monday afternoon.
Mississippi College fired the first shot on goal of the game in the 16th minute that was stopped by Tritons' goalkeeper Aidan Leak. EC registered another two shots on goal in the frame but could not convert. On a counterattack with one second to go in the half, Denis O. John made a move around the Tritons' keeper to take a 1-0 lead into the half.
On another counterattack, O. John added another goal nearly four minutes into the final frame to give the Choctaws a two-goal cushion. Eckerd followed with a couple of good chances from Fredrick Heise and Tommy Shepherd, which were both turned aside by Carlos Viquez. The Choctaws extended their lead to three in the 80th minute to retire the game 3-0.
