Tritons Welcome U.S. Team Member Julian Green

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The Eckerd College soccer programs are pleased to announce that 2014 U.S.A. National Team member, Julian Green will appear at the Tritons soccer camp on Monday, June 15. Green became the youngest U.S. team member in history to score a goal in the World Cup in 2014.

The Eckerd soccer camp is slated to begin at 9 am with Green arriving just before 10 am. The World Cup athlete will take time from his busy schedule to give back to a group of young soccer players in hopes of inspiring them using athletics and his own life experience. He will take the campers through a set of drills helping to improve their skills and even participate in a game or two.

Campers and fans will have an opportunity to meet Julian at the Pub, located on the campus of Eckerd College. He will be taking pictures and signing autographs for anyone who is interested. Once the autograph session is complete, the media will have a chance for interviews and questions about the World Cup, professional soccer and Mr. Green himself.

Born in Tampa in 1996, Green moved to Germany at the age of two, qualifying him to play for either the German or United States national teams. His international career began with Germany playing for their U16 and U17 teams.

In March of 2014, Green's change of nationality was approved by FIFA (Federation Internationale de Football Association) making him immediately eligible to play for the United States. Julian played for the U.S. U18 squad in an international friendly with the Netherlands scoring a goal in the team's 4-2 victory. In May of 2014, he was selected to the U.S. Men's National Team for the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.

Green became the youngest player in U.S. history to score in the World Cup notching a brilliant goal in the 107th minute against Belgium in the round of 16 on his first touch. He was the youngest player to score in the World Cup since Lionel Messi in 2006.
