ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The Eckerd College men's and women's basketball programs want you to be loud and proud Saturday night for another exciting edition of the Triton Tip-Off, a popular annual event on campus that signals the start of the new hoops season.
This year's Triton Tip-Off at 9 p.m. is being promoted as a blackout and the Tritons want all fans, students, staff/faculty and alumni, to pack the stands wearing black.
Before the evening's festivities kick off in the McArthur Center, ECOS would like to invite everyone for a free tailgate outside the gym with food and beverages beginning at 8 p.m.
The men's team will do a slam-dunk showcase and the women's team will interact with fans to do a shooting contest.
Special presentations will be done by the Eckerd cheerleading squad and dance team. Free wings and t-shirts are also at stake in a relay contest.
An additional spirit contest will pit dorms against each other for a chance at a pizza party and one lucky fan could walk away with free books or a $50 eBay gift card if he/she can sink a shot from half court.
MC'ing this year's event is former men's basketball player and current EckerdTritons.com broadcaster Nick Agress. P.A. announcer Terry Donald will brand his own rendition of entertaining player introductions featured with a spotlight and fog machine.
The night will be capped off with a special dance line formed between the basketball teams and everyone in attendance on the court.
The Eckerd College athletics department would like to thank Ferg's Sports Bar and Grill, EC Student Affairs, the EC Student Senate, ECOS and the EC Student-Athlete Advisory Committee for their role in sponsoring this year's event.
There's something for everyone this year so remember to wear black and come prepared to cheer for your 2012-13 Tritons!!
